Cinéfest Sudbury is excited to announce the first component of this year’s Cinema Summit activities - a short film showcase and panel entitled Animated + Aboriginal: Indigenous Storytelling Through Animation. The programme is presented in partnership with the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival, and will consist of eight short films, followed by a panel discussion featuring Terril Calder, who specializes in stop-motion animation, and a representative from imagineNATIVE.
"Animation in all its forms is a vital medium for many Indigenous artists in Canada and around the world," says Jason Ryle, imagineNATIVE Executive Director. "This programme celebrates the diverse achievements of eight Indigenous artists who use numerous animation techniques - from traditional hand-drawn animation to computer generated images - to express their creativity and share their unique perspectives."
The list of short films presented in this programme are:
The Visit [Lisa Jackson, Canada]
Lummajuuq [Alethea Arnaqua-Baril, Canada]
Tungijuq [Felix Lajeunesse and Paul Raphaël, Canada]
Quite an Ugly Frog [Jouni West, Finland]
